The Company

Founded in 1979, the Piccoli Principi Theatre Company produces and distributes theatre, and organises cultural activities projects of various types for public organisations, theatres, museums and schools. It receives funding from the Regione Toscana, and a member of Assitej Italia. Headquartered in Calenzano in the province of Florence, it conducts its activity in Italy and abroad.

Interweaving the languages of visual arts and music with those of the stage arts, the Piccoli Principi creations stand out for their uniqueness. By many defined as surprising, unpredictable, the Piccoli Principi theatre is, to all effects and purposes, theatre. Free from conventions and constantly open to all the stimuli of contemporaneity, it confronts themes of different natures but that all concern the idea of “relationship”, between different cultures, different types of knowledge: theatre and science, art and childhood, art and education.

For years now, the Piccoli Principi Company has chosen to dialogue not with the public, but with the spectator, investing more in the quality of their audience than in their number.
Piccoli Principi consider their audiences intelligent. Each member of the audience, without distinction of age, sex or origin, possesses knowledge. The place of sharing par excellence, the theatre for the Piccoli Principi is the place where information, experiences, and ideas are exchanged between different people who share a love for knowledge. On these subjects, the Piccoli Principi Theatre Company engages a dialogue with artists, scientists, and educators, and works with Italian and foreign institutions in the form of exchanges, partnerships, co-productions.
